Biomass project sawmill in Brazil

Project

The project is concerned with power production from thermal wood energy, which is generated using FSC certified wood waste.

Project owner

The biomass project has already been operating using the established technology since November 2002 and is legally registered with the competent UN executive body. The first emission reductions have already been submitted to the monitoring process, recorded, verified and issued. As expected, the wood chip power plant is operating well.

Initial situation

A wood chip power plant with a capacity of 9 MW at a sawmill in Itacoatiara replaces several diesel generators and ensures the supply of electricity to the town’s roughly 70'000 inhabitants. The plant has an annual electricity production of 56'000 MWh, which would otherwise have to be produced using fossil energy.

Savings

18% of the project’s total volume of CERs; expected quantity of 141'000 CERs.
