Eco-Drive® refers to an economical, eco-friendly and safe driving style: driving in the highest possible gear and at low engine speed, accelerating promptly, shifting gears in a timely manner and driving with foresight and regularity. Following these rules not only allows you to save around 10% on fuel, it is also more gentle on the vehicle and is proven to reduce noise and accidents. Due to these numerous advantages, Eco-Drive® has been included in driving instruction since 2005, and it is mandatory for professional drivers of heavy utility vehicles since 2008. As the Foundation's contractual partner, Quality Alliance Eco-Drive® (QAED), which licences the courses and ensures the quality of training, is responsible for acquiring numerous new course participants. In order to boost enrolment, the Foundation is making available total funds of 16 million Swiss Francs. This would increase threefold the funds which the Swiss Confederation's SwissEnergy programme is already pledging for the support of Eco-Drive®. In order to secure these funds, QAED must achieve its target of triggering CO2 reductions of 206'000 tonnes over the period 2007 to 2012. The effective contribution paid to QAED will be computed using the agreed price of 78 Swiss Francs per reduced tonne of CO2.
