The Climate Cent Foundation has successfully completed the first phase of its existence. In November 2013, the Swiss Federal Council confirmed that the Foundation had contributed the contractually specified amount toward meeting Swiss climate protection targets. Over the period 2008 to 2012, the Foundation contributed to reducing 2 million tonnes of CO₂ in Switzerland and over 16 million tonnes of CO₂ abroad. According to current planning, remaining Climate Cent funds of around 150 million Swiss francs will be invested in climate protection schemes carried out abroad until the end of 2025. In a follow-up agreement with the Swiss Confederation, the Foundation has committed to handing over all resulting certificates to the Swiss Confederation at no charge.
